Real Food

You've probably heard a lot about how avoiding processed foods will be beneficial to the health of you and your family.  You've also heard that it's beneficial to the environment.  But the reality is that you have to work in addition to taking care of yourself and your family.

Completely changing your diet can be a huge challenge.  What if it costs more?  What if it takes more time?  What if you don't like anything?  Well, first off, you just need to take it only one day at a time.  Or you can take the 10-Day Pledge.  The Leake family took on this challenge, but theirs was an one-hundred day challenge.  Head over to their blog 100 Days of Real Food to read about the challenges they faced and the progress they made.

The Leakes had been influenced by the writings of Michael Pollan to make a change for the better.  If you are still worried about costs then check out their 100 Days of Real Food on a Budget in which they limited themselves to spending only $125 a week on food (less than what a family on food stamps would have access to) for their family of four.

There are lots of great resources on the internet for finding ways to feed your family affordably and healthily.  Try it for ten days.  If you can make it a week, you can easily make it a lifetime.

Also check out The New York Times for reader submitted summer meals like Wineberry Pie, Roasted Sweet Pepper Soup and Spicy Roasted Corn.
